2007 Press Release - Sale of Local Golf Course Complete – New Ownership Shares Plans

NORTH CLARENDON, VT (June 13, 2007) - Stonehedge Golf Course announced today that the course has been purchased by Richard “Dick” Bendig and his two sons, Shawn and Chriss.  The 9-hole course, Rutland County’s only par-3 golf offering, features 1,107 yards of rolling fairways and well-manicured greens.  The course was designed and operated by Robert Matson since 1995.

"We are very pleased to have completed the sale and excited about the possibilities this course has to offer local golfers," said Richard Bendig, President of Stonehedge. "The real beauty of the course lies in its versatility.  For the accomplished golfer, we offer an affordable way for them to improve their short game.  For the senior golfer, we provide a 9-hole course that can be easily walked or ridden in just over an hour.  And, finally, for the younger/novice golfer, we strive to create an atmosphere that allows them to learn the game at their own pace."

“I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years and can still remember what it felt like the first time I stepped onto a tee box at a larger, traditional golf course…  Simply put, I found the experience to be quite stressful and a bit overwhelming,” said fellow course owner Shawn Bendig.  “Here at Stonehedge, one of our primary goals is allowing the less experienced golfer to feel at ease on the course and enjoy their round of golf.  Judging from the conversations that we have had with some of our customers and the smiles I’ve seen on their faces as they come off the 9^th green, I’d say we’re heading in the right direction.”

“We are thrilled with how well course conditions have improved in the past two months; our turf manager has the greens playing better every week,” said Chriss Bendig, the final member of the new ownership team.  “Over the next few months we will be looking to make a number of improvements to the course including updating/expanding our rental club options and adding a putting/chipping green and driving cage where customers can warm-up before hitting the links.  We will also be offering a variety of new course promotions including league play.” 

Stonehedge Golf Course is located on 216 Squires Road in North Clarendon, VT 05759 (directly behind Automobile International at the junction of Routes 7 and 103).  The course will continue to operate seven (7) days a week from 8:00AM until dusk.
